Wilson Elementary in San Leandro launched a new Walking & Running Club in November. The students were very enthusiastic and over 200 students made their first laps around the field as part of the club.
At Fremont High School in Oakland, students are using youth-participatory action research to include youth voices in Fremont’s Redesign, especially in the rebuilt of the new cafeteria and football field.
Yesterday in class the kids learned about what compost was. They got to add it to the garden bed and feel it. We compared the textures of the compost and the texture of the dry dirt before. All of the kids were really excited to plant!
On the 19th of February, I went to the Cannery Cafe to represent Project EAT and sell some of our produce we had available for the season. It was a very nice event and two other members of the Project EAT internship accompanied me.
Today was great at Tyrrell! We got to see the whole school and explore it more in depth. Unfortunately, we saw that there are little almost no tools for us to use. We will be needing a lot like gloves, wheelbarrows, hand shovels, soil.
The Garden Mentors program at Tennyson High School is moving swiftly. After much interest in the program, we chose 17 fantastic Garden Mentors. 2 of the mentors are returning to the program after a successful mentorship last year.
