East Avenue Students in Room 23 Introduced to freshly Cooked Brussels Sprouts for Snack
At East Avenue, 1st grade students participated in washing, seasoning and cooking freshly cut up Brussels Sprouts for snack time. Students tasted raw leafs before cooking and also roasted sprouts after cooking. They absolutely loved them both. The students were amazed at how good it tasted. They ran home in excitement afterwards.
We later connected our experience to our writing standards in doing a How-to writing prompt to practice for our Common Core writing assessment. Students learned to describe their tasting experience and compare it to former tasting parties we had with other Harvest of the Month foods. It will always be a happy memory for them, and they look forward now to future food experiences.
