Garden Mentors at Tennyson High School
The Garden Mentors program at Tennyson High School is moving swiftly. After much interest in the program, we chose 17 fantastic Garden Mentors. 2 of the mentors are returning to the program after a successful mentorship last year. 6 of the mentors had previously been involved with Project EAT through our Get Fresh! Stay Healthy! Internship. November and December were busy with garden and nutrition skills trainings. We have learned how to teach others how to plant a garden bed, design a healthy meal, and stay active. The high school students are busy learning mentor skills and are itching to go to their elementary schools and get started! January should be filled with visits to the elementary schools and final trainings with a goal of working at their designated elementary schools in February.
Here is a photo of Liam, Ruth, Jerry, and Athena working together to remove weeds in our farm field. Athena and Ruth are CSUEB student interns that work on the farm and help run our garden mentors internship. Jerry is a dedicated community gardener. Liam is a Fresh Productions student intern who has worked with us for 2 years.
