Standards-aligned nutrition lessons are taught using school gardens as a setting for learning. Students who are exposed to nutrition content in an outdoor classroom are more likely to consume fruits and vegetables. Nutrition Connection Lessons integrate hands-on, interactive, cross curricular learning; Science, Math and English/ Language Arts standards are regular components. These lessons provide a model to classroom teachers about how to effectively integrate nutrition content and the use of the outdoor garden in standards-based learning. These lessons create meaningful learning experiences that follow students into their communities, and throughout their lives.
